Questions?
Frequently asked questions
Here are answers to the things people ask us most. Don't see your question? Just call, we're happy to talk it through in your language.
Getting started
How much does it cost to call?
Nothing. Calling and talking with us is completely free, and there's no obligation. If you decide to move forward and we connect you with an attorney, they typically work on a “no win, no fee” (contingency) basis, meaning you only pay if your case is won, usually as a percentage of the recovery. We'll always make sure the terms are explained to you clearly before you agree to anything.
What languages can I call in?
Many. Our advocates speak Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Nepali, Sinhala, and English, among others. If you don't see your language, call anyway. We work with interpreters and community partners and will do our best to help.
When can I reach you?
Any time, day or night. Accidents don't keep business hours, and neither do we. A real person will answer your call.
What if I already talked to an insurance company?
That's okay, call us anyway. Even if you've already spoken with an adjuster or given a statement, we can still help you understand your options and avoid further mistakes. The sooner we talk, the more we can help.
Your situation
Does my immigration status matter?
No. You have the right to seek medical care and fair treatment after a not-at-fault accident regardless of your immigration status. Your status is not relevant to your right to recover for injuries caused by someone else.
What kinds of accidents do you help with?
We focus on not-at-fault motor vehicle accidents: being hit by another car, a truck, a rideshare (Uber/Lyft), or being struck as a pedestrian or cyclist. If you're not sure whether your situation qualifies, just call and we'll talk it through.
What if I'm not sure the accident was the other driver's fault?
Call us anyway. Fault isn't always obvious, and it's determined through investigation, not by what was said at the scene. We can help you understand how fault is decided in your state.
Can my family be part of the conversation?
Absolutely. We know big decisions are often family decisions. You're always welcome to include a spouse, parent, or adult child in the call.
How we work
Are you a law firm?
No. Desi Accident Help is a community advocacy and resource service. We are not a law firm and we don't provide legal advice or representation. What we do is listen, guide you, and connect you with trusted, independent licensed attorneys and doctors who can help.
Will I have to go to court?
Usually not. Most personal injury claims are settled without ever going to trial. If a lawsuit does become necessary, the attorney you work with will explain the process and what to expect every step of the way.
How much money could I get?
It depends entirely on your situation (your injuries, your medical costs, lost wages, and other factors) and no one can honestly promise a specific amount. What we can promise is to help you understand what a fair outcome looks like and connect you with someone who will work to get it.
Is there a deadline to act?
Yes. Every state has a deadline (called the statute of limitations) to file a claim, and it varies from state to state. There are also practical reasons to act quickly: evidence and medical records are freshest early on. It's best to call as soon as you can.
The answers above are general information, not legal advice, and laws vary by state. For guidance about your specific situation, talk with a licensed attorney, and feel free to call us to be connected with one.
Pick up the phone. We'll take it from here.
